DRAINPIPE trousers, stiletto heels and Brylcreem will be de rigeur in Alton town centre on May 5.
The town is staging a 1950s day, featuring music, motors and even superstars from the era.
Marilyn Monroe lookalike, Suzie Kennedy (pictured above), is set to be the star attraction.
Suzie has starred in many TV films and documentaries as the H
ollywood legend, featuring around the world in TV adverts. She has performed her tribute show before audiences that have included Madonna, Kate Moss and Sir Alex Ferguson. Town initiatives manager Vernon Pearce was excited about his latest signing for the event.
He said: “It’s amazing that we have managed to book Suzie Kennedy – the leading Marilyn Monroe lookalike. It’s not very often we get international stars appearing in Alton and Suzie will certainly add to the atmosphere on the day.”
Cars, vans and motorcycles from the ‘50s will be parked around Market Square during the day, with a cruise of motorcycles expected to roar into town at noon.
An American Car Show featuring American cars of all ages, together with candy floss, popcorn and hot dogs is also planned for the High Street.
Rock n’roll group The B17s will perform in Market Square, as will Rat Pack tribute act The Schmooze Brothers.
Mr Pearce said: “I think the 1950s was a great era, signalling the start of modern pop music, and I’m sure many Altonians grew up listening to rock ‘n roll and the sound of the big crooners.
“Let’s face it, many of today’s pop stars like Robbie Williams and Ray Quinn on X-Factor last year are still emulating the likes of Frank Sinatra and Sammy Davies Jr.”
Vernon is still looking for more owners of 1950s cars and motorcycles to add to the nostalgic atmosphere.
