THE WINNERS of the Winchester District Sports awards were revealed last Thursday.
The awards celebrated the achievements and commitment of coaches, volunteers and sportsmen and women in 15 categories over the past year.
The Sport and Physical Activity Alliance (SPAA) organised its ninth annual awards ceremony, which was hosted by Kevan James from BBC Radio Solent and featured an inspiring opening talk from Mandy Hickson, the SPAA ambassador.
An impressive 97 nominations were made across the categories before the judging panel whittled down the submissions to select the winners. Awards were handed out on the night by Cllr Jane Rutter, the Mayor of Winchester, along with the category sponsors.
The assembled crowd of 250 were also treated to a dance display by Winchester Wolves from the University of Winchester Dance Squad.
Portfolio holder for health and wellbeing, Cllr Lisa Griffiths, said: “The high number of nominations highlights the calibre of sporting talent within the district as well as the dedication of coaches and volunteers who work tirelessly behind the scenes.”
