Castle United under-15s 8 Alton Hawks under-15s 2: CASTLE United under-15s from the Portsmouth Youth League clinched the HPD Invitational Cup with a strong first-half display against Alton Hawks under-15s at a sunbathed Rowlands Castle Recreation Ground.

Alton made a bright start and took the lead on two minutes with a well taken goal. Castle equalised in the fifth minute when a free kick was whipped to the back post by James Campbell and headed in by Riley Griffiths.

After an even 20 minutes Castle won the game in a devastating 12-minute spell, which started on 24 minutes when Geraint Melville slotted home after Ed Lee’s chipped free kick beat the defence. Three minutes later it was 3-1 when Melville latched onto Finn Wilde’s defence-splitting pass.

Melville completed his hat-trick on 29 minutes after a good cross from Riley Griffiths was turned in. A minute later Melville then turned provider when his corner was headed in for Griffiths’ second and Castle’s fifth.

In the 36th minute Lee provided another chipped through ball for Melville to race onto for his fourth and make it 6-2. Alton pulled a goal back immediately with a fine move and finish.

The second half was a much tighter game with no gaols until the 73rd minute when Archie Thompson’s run and cross was hammered home by Bradley Mizen.

Two minutes later Ed Lee headed in the eighth after good work from Melville. The game was played in a good spirit by two teams from different leagues in the county.
