DISTRICT council plans to sell off land in Whitehill and Bordon have been blasted as hypocritical by Whitehill Town Council.
Councillors met to discuss East Hampshire District Council's proposals for selling a plot of land at South Hurst in Whitehill on Monday.
They were upset about double standards from EHDC after both the district and town council had asked the Army t
o refrain from selling plots of land piecemeal to the highest bidder - when it starts withdrawing in 2012 - as part of the Whitehill and Bordon Opportunity agreement.
Councillors felt this was exactly what the district council now had in mind with South Hurst and six other sites across Whitehill and Bordon.
Mayor Bill Wain said: "I think what we have to look at is the principle of the district council selling off lots of land.
"South Hurst is the first plot of land in the parish being considered - and there are several.
"We asked the army not to sell it piecemeal, yet they are doing exactly the opposite."
Cllr Faith Thomas said: "They have already done it in Chalet Hill, but they cannot sell the houses down there."
Cllr David Williamson said: "They should honour that agreement for the Whitehill and Bordon Opportunity themselves as far as I am concerned."
The possible sale of South Hurst came about after EHDC carried out a review of its holdings and earmarked a shortlist of areas left over from previous housing developments which could be sold to raise cash.
From a shortlist of 15, seven sites are in Whitehill and Bordon.
The small plot of land at South Hurst is very steep and useless as a kickabout area for children.
Whitehill Town Council clerk Trish Bell told members a number of neighbouring parish councils were equally unhappy with the district council proposals.
