A KINGSLEY tennis coach is swapping his racket for hiking boots in a bid to raise £20,000 for charity.
Colin Jakeway, of Kingsley Tennis Club, is aiming to complete a 100 kilometres trek across the South Downs Way in 24 hours on behalf of the Gurkha Welfare Trust and Breast Cancer Research.
He is joining friends and tennis club members David Tomlins
on, Brad Kneller and Mike Johnson to take up the challenge.
Colin said: "We had one of our members doing it last year and he turned round and said why don't you take a team up there from the tennis club?
"We have spent the last four months walking the length of the South Downs and the longest one we have done was about 50 or 60 kilometres, so we feel quite ready."
The gang of four will start from Petersfield and trek eastwards along the South Downs Way to end in Brighton, stopping occasionally for rests and food.
He said in addition to the walk a number of other fundraising events were being undertaken by the club to help reach the target, including a 70s night disco.
Colin said: "I never like asking for money, but if you have an odd £5, or £50 - I'm not fussy, left over from a night out, perhaps you might consider letting me have it to give to these worthy causes.
"Just a pledge for now would be great."
Anyone interested in sponsoring the walk can contact Colin Jakeway at Kingsley Tennis Club on 01420 489492.
