Pupils from Bordon Junior School got stuck into sticks and stones following their visit to Portchester Castle.
Just before the trip, they heard a fascinating talk from Andrew Buckley from AB Heritage.

He talked to the children about his role as an archaeologist and helped them to analyse and interpret actual archaeological finds from the surrounding area.

Year 4 pupils then took a trip out to Portchester Castle, where they saw the scale of the fort made originally by the Romans nearly 2,000 years ago.

Andrew helped children look at finds from the actual site and analysed what they tell people today about how the Romans lived.

The youngsters completed research activities and created poetry and art work.

Christine Tigwell, Year 4 class teacher, said: "Children were able to use their knowledge from the day in order to discover what it was like in Roman Britain.

"As well as this they considered the importance of the building materials used as being integral to its survival today."

She added: "It was a wonderful day – we all enjoyed fantastic weather!".
