PETERSFIELD WI: Which island has the motto 'Desire the Right?'
Mr Allport knows and he gave Petersfield WI a very comprehensive talk on his visit to the Falkland Islands in June 1982 while serving in the Royal Navy.
His talk was entitled 'Snowballs in June,' which in that hemisphere is quite feasible.
Group delegate Val Hart gave an extremely interesting account of the AGM at Liverpool, which 6,000 WI members had attended.
The two resolutions for this year: 'A Ban on Bottom Trawling' had proved rather debatable and the fishermen were working on a solution to this.
The second resolution, 'Inappropriate Imprisonment of the non-criminal,' was carried. There were also several excellent speakers at the conference.
The group's numerous knitted garments for premature babies were delivered to St Mary's Hospital in Portsmouth last month.
The group meet on the second Wednesday of each month at St Lawrence's Hall at 2pm. Visitors always welcome.
