On Thursday, July 22 at 7pm there will be a talk at the Flora Twort gallery in Petersfield from local historian and author David Johnston to introduce his new book,' The Restless Miller'.

This is the true story of a well-to-do yeoman farmer, come miller, who fell to the level of a pauper and was buried in an unmarked grave.
The book brings to life a lost world of farmers, auctioneers, innkeepers, wine merchants and die-hard smugglers who mingled in the borderlands of Sussex, Surrey and Hampshire in the 18th and 19th century.

As well as the obvious local history element this talk will also be of interest to anyone currently researching their family history as David describes how he pieced together the evidence to uncover this tale.
Light refreshments will be provided at the end of the talk and David will be happy to sign copies of his book which will be available for sale on the night.

Tickets cost £5 and are available from Petersfield Museum and the Flora Twort Gallery shops. They can be booked over the phone and paid for on collection.
