Petersfield Museum has a fascinating line up of talks and events lined up for the summer.
n 'Victorian Underpinnings' is the talk on Thursday, July 9 at 6:30pm, at the Flora Twort Gallery.

Find out how Victorian women achieved that classic elegant shape. This talk will take you through Victorian women's underwear layer by layer, expla
ining why each piece was worn, how it was made and cared for. There will be an opportunity to view original pieces from the Bedales Historic Costume Collection and handle replica items.

This session is led by Cathy Flower-Bond and Jo Briffet, professional historical interpreters.

n A drop-in workshop for children takes place on July 29, 10am-4pm at the museum.

n Do one thing for nature this summer holiday with the help of Cbeebies Green Balloon Club Week. Find out how to turn old rubbish into a butterfly or birdfeeder, then take it home and help out your local wildlife.

n Then on Thursday, July 30, 10am- noon, there will be a Hampshire Roots music family session at the Flora Twort Gallery.

Experience a piece of Hampshire's musical heritage, with all the family. Try your hand (and voice) at singing some traditional Hampshire folk songs. No music reading or prior choral experience is needed. Parents' involvement will be welcome but not essential. This activity is organised by the English Folk Dance and Song Society and funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund.

The session is led by Sarah Morgan, who leads Petersfield Community Choir. As a performer, she includes many Hampshire songs in her repertoire. You can find more about her at www.cmr-harmony.org.uk

n Another drop-in session takes place at the museum on Tuesday, August 4 and Thursday 6, 10am-4pm – to make a prehistoric pot.

The people living around Petersfield at the time the barrows on the heath were built would have made pots for all sorts of different reasons, from cooking and storing food to burying their dead. Make a pot inspired by the prehistoric pots out of air dried clay to take home and keep.

n There's a chance to meet the famous Gumdrop (weather permitting) and hear Val Biro read one of his exciting children's stories on Wednesday August 12 and 19,10.30 -11.30am. Local author David Schutte will then read an extract from the popular Naitabal series from 12 noon-pm.

n You can make a show bag for school at the Flora Twort Gallery at two drop in sessions, Tuesday August 25 and Thursday 27, 10am-4pm.

Decorate a shoe bag to take your PE shoes to school. The bags will be pre-made and all you have to do is decorate them, taking inspiration from the costumes at the museum.

n A talk entitled 'Tudor Cabinet of Curiosities' will be held on Thursday, September 17 at 7pm, at the Flora Twort Gallery.

Step back in time and meet a Tudor woman and her collection of curiosities. This talk will be an introduction to the more private and fun- loving side of the Tudor life, with replica costume and artefacts that can be handled.
