Allow me to clarify the situation regarding the The Petersfield School playing fields.
Far from selling off school playing fields, the governors disposed of a small parcel of land that fringes one of the school's three sports pitches. No sports pitches were sold off.

The governors are using the proceeds to radically improve sports
provision at TPS for the benefit of current and future pupils.

Once the facilities are operational they will be available to the local sporting community at times agreed under planning consents and we have already had plenty of interest from local football clubs.

Finally may I thank our neighbours for their co-operation during construction work, the first phase of which concludes in January 2010.

This letter is regarding Steven Fisher's letter (Readers' Letters, September 30.

I am a student at TPS and they are using the field as a new astroturf playing field and not as an extension of Tesco.

It will also benefit the comunity as well. When people complain about things they don't know much about at least ask for copies of the plans.

I must challenge David Storey (Readers' Letters, September 30) on his assertion that 'we have moved on' from believing the Bible is a true and accurate record of God's dealings with man.

True Christians have not moved on from their belief in its truth, daily experience confirms it is the very word of God written by men inspired by his spirit (whatever unbelieving 'scholars of repute' may say).

I admit that many modern translators are not inspired and have subtly changed the meanings of the text, but the King James version is still accurate to the traditional Greek and Hebrew texts.

Surely, truth is absolute – in a pluralist society people are free, I hope, to worship whatever and however they please, but their beliefs cannot all be true, as they are mutually exclusive – it is not just the question of different names for the same god.

Christians believe God the creator is holy – and that all men are sinful – only by faith in Jesus Christ their saviour and personal sin-bearer can men be reconciled and come into a living relationship with God and be delivered from eternal death and from bondage to religious rituals in an attempt to placate a deity.

That is why it is so important that while we have life on this earth we make our peace with God – it is a matter of life and death eternally, and so believing the truth is important.

But why should that preclude 'peace and understanding' with those of other beliefs? Christians wish them no harm, only that they too may be saved.

David Storey, writes logically on the subject of multi-faith religion. Tony Blair's 'Faith Foundation' would no doubt concur.

Of course he makes several assumptions, without offering evidence to back them.
