Twice recently I have had cause to think about unpowered flight. First, I had given my wife a glider experience flight as a Christmas present.
This she took, on a less than perfect day. Notwithstanding the weather it was a remarkable experience gradually descending from 2,500ft.
Later in the month we visited grandchildren in Leicester and there we flew a kite – a very simple kite giving
us much fun.
Both experiences used the power of the wind and air. My wife and I also sail and so we are well aware of the power of the wind which we use to power our boat. The thing about the wind is that it is invisible.
We cannot see it, we can only observe its effects. Sometimes it is a mere gentle breeze, at other times a devastating hurricane. Jesus said: 'The wind blows where it pleases. You can hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going to,' (John 3:8).
He was speaking of the spiritual world – the work of God's Holy Spirit. I find that there is a great interest among people these days in the spiritual dimension of their lives.
However, we must be careful that we seek after God and his spirit, rather than being diverted into other directions.
