Church bells will ring for visitor Karloff

A peal of bells will welcome the daughter of a Hollywood legend when she visits the village church at Bramshott next month.

Sara Karloff’s father Boris –best known for playing the role of Frankenstein’s monster – lived in the village for many years, and she will be in Bramshott and Liphook on Monday, October 8 as part of a major fundraising event for the church roof appeal at St Mary’s.

During her visit, she will be greeted by a peal of bells by the bellringers of St Mary’s.

“Boris Karloff - The Man and the Monster” at Liphook Millennium Centre will include a talk and a question and answer session by Sara Karloff, and Stephen Jacobs, author of the biography of her father. It will be followed by a screening of the 1931 classic film Frankenstein.

Louise Garwood, of the Friends of St Mary’s, said: “This is a unique event for a small town - it would normally take place at the British Film Institute or the National Film Theatre. Sara and Stephen are making time specially during a short trip from America to help raise money for the appeal.” Tickets for the event are £15 from the Millennium Centre on 01428 723889 or Liphook Church Centre on 01428 725390.
