A Petersfield man who won a job dubbed 'the best in the world' has set off from the UK to his tropical destination.
Ben Southall (34) beat more than 34,000 applicants from around the world to the position as the new caretaker of an Australian tropical island.
His new job requires him to live and report from Hamilton Island on Queensland's Great Barrier Reef.
His six-month post, which begins today (Wednesday), will see him receive a salary of £73,500 for his work there.
His father, Duncan Southall, said: "He was very enthusiastic and has taken quite a bit with him.
"We are going travelling in August for three weeks and hope to spend one of them with Ben."
Sixteen finalists competed for the position before Ben was named the successful candidate.
