Petersfield's planned Christmas Festivities could be set to expand after more of the town's businesses asked to be involved.
Traders from Chapel Street and Lavant Street have called on East Hampshire District Council to broaden December's seasonal spectacular, currently planned for The High Street, The Square and part of Chapel Street, to include their businesses.

About
100 business people met with council representatives last Wednesday to discuss the plans for the event, which takes place from December 5-7.

The winter wonderland will feature trade stalls, festive attractions and a synthetic skating rink in The Square.

EHDC's portfolio holder for business development, Cllr Richard Milliard, said the district council would now consider enlarging the event to encompass more of the town.

"There was a lot of enthusiasm from Lavant Street and Chapel Street," he said.

"Some shop owners have been asking if we can close off those streets as well and we're looking at that as a possibility.

"We'd love to include them if we can." Saturday market stall holders have also been involved in discussions with the council after they raised concerns about being moved from The Square.

An agreement has been reached where they will relocate to the High Street.

It was also announced that the Christmas Lights, arranged by Petersfield Marketing Limited, will be switched on at the start of the Festivities on December 5.

Cllr Millard said he was delighted with the reaction from local businesses.

"There wasn't a single person who was negative about the event," he said.

"The amount of people that want a stall is phenomenal.

"Hopefully there will be more than enough stalls to fill all the plots, even if we expand."
