COMMUTERS and town workers are selfishly blocking up the car parking spaces around The Avenue Pavilion, according to Petersfield Town Council.
The council says motorists taking advantage of the free car park are preventing others from using the hall and the adjacent playing fields. Members were looking into solutions to free up spaces, with charging, clamping or time limits followed by fines all being mooted.

The council was told that the gates to the park had been locked overnight in a previous bid to prevent early morning commuters taking the spaces, but a motorist who found his vehicle trapped in the evening simply smashed his car through the locked gates to escape.

Officers will now work on a list of options and bring them back to councillors.
