Inspector gives new homes go ahead

PLANS to build two new homes on a contentious site in Petersfield have been given the green light following a planning inquiry. The new houses will be constructed at 4 Buckmore Avenue, following the demolition of the existing property.
The area has been the subject of previous planning battles which have been rejected by East Hampshire District Council and at appeal by a planning inspector.
This latest bid, though refused by EHDC, was allowed by inspector John Woolcock because he said the plan was significantly different to previous applications and was a more appropriate density for the site.
"Given the different circumstances, there is no inconsistency between my findings and the conclusions of my colleague in the previous appeals," said Mr Woolcock.
The site lies within a mature residential area that is characterised by large detached houses on substantial plots. Mr Woolcock said the proposed development would be comparable to those already in existence.
"I do not share local concerns that the proposed development would impair the spaciousness of the area."
