The Avenue playing field has emerged as the most likely location of a youth shelter in Petersfield but local residents are concerned by the plan.
The site has emerged as a favourite among town councillors who see it as a more appropriate site than Love Lane.
Plans have yet to be ratified by full council but the specific site mooted would be `on the playing fields, near the turning to Weston
Road. Councillor Bob Ayer said The Avenue would be the better location: "The only location on The Avenue which meets the professional advice we have got is the one in the vicinity of Weston Road," he said.
He turned down the alternative on the Love Lane playing fields, near Marden Way and said: "It's a bit too close to the residents and too close to the football ground for comfort."
The shelter, which costs £11,000 and has been purchased by East Hampshire District Council with lottery funding, would provide covered seats and a climbing frame for teenagers.
However, residents along The Avenue are worried about the impact of the shelter on their lives.
One resident, who did not want to be named, said: "We definitely don't want it.
"We'll be kept awake, there'll be shouting, screaming and bottles thrown about. There used to be groups of 60-70 teenagers gather
