Spinning and weaving were among the skills which children learned something about as they saw how their ancient forebears celebrated at harvest time.
Young visitors to Butser Ancient Farm at Chalton had a go at spinning wool, as well as sampling some of the food that would once have been prepared as people got ready for the onset of the winter months.

They also came face to face with the skull of a Manx Loghtan ram, a domestic animal similar to those which would have been kept at Iron Age farms.

A welcome spell of autumn sunshine brought scores of visitors to the Butser farm, and there was plenty to keep them busy throughout the weekend.
