The debate will highlight the work that is going on across the district to ensure that people are treated fairly regardless of sex, age, ability, religion and any other factors that may make them different.

Local organisations including town and parish councils will be able to attend the invitation-only event to be held in the council chamber at the offices of East Hampshire District Council, Penns Place tomorrow (Thursday).

A district council spokesman said: “While East Hampshire is a relatively well-off area, this can sometimes make problems worse for people who are disadvantaged in any way. A lack of transport options and access to services in a rural area can make people more isolated than they would be in the centre of a town or city.”

Iain Duncan-Smith MP will be making a guest appearance at this non-political event, as he is keen to see how a rural authority like East Hampshire District Council is addressing these important issues.

Councillor Yvonne Parker-Smith said: “We are delighted to welcome such an eminent politician, who is the chairman of the Centre for Social Justice, to take the time out of his busy schedule to visit East Hampshire.”

The event will include a number of presentations on social justice and a Question Time-style panel discussion where the invited guests can raise issues and questions.
