Campaigners battling to save Rogate Primary School, which had been threatened with closure, say the school's future has been secured.
The news has been officially confirmed by West Sussex County Council and the campaign's website
www.saverogateschool.com claims the school will continue and will even extend to incorporate Year 6 pupils f
rom next year.
A campaign statement reads: "After three months of anguish, we finally heard the decision on the future of Rogate School at lunchtime on Tuesday, May 20.
"The news started with us being informed that WSCC will be going straight to Statutory Notices and it followed with the announcement that Rogate will become an all-through 4 to 11 independent primary school from September 2009. This is obviously excellent news and is a better outcome than we imagined. To be given the Year 6 from next year and be given the opportunity to 'go it alone' is a reflection of the strengths of the school.
"A big thank you to everyone for your continued support and to the campaign team for helping put together probably one of the most successful and high impact 'save our school' campaigns in the UK!
"Even WSCC commented on the quality and scale of the campaign!"
The county council had proposed the closure of the school as part of a wide-ranging changes to schools around the Rother Valley, which include the amalgamation of Hollycombe and Rake primary schools.
