Residents in East Hampshire are being urged to keep their vehicles secure following a spate of car thefts in Petersfield, Liphook and Alton over the weekend of August 8-10.
A total of 11 vehicles were broken into and items stolen included a satellite navigation system, a PlayStation, CD wallet, petrol, mobile phone and money.

The police are planning to issue signs which car owners can place in their vehicles to say all valuables have been removed. The signs will be available from police stations within the next few weeks.

East Hampshire crime prevention offer, Penny Tarrant, said: “Vehicle crime is almost always preventable. In most cases of theft, items such as stereos, cash and Sat Nav equipment have been left on display.

“It only takes seconds for a thief to break into your vehicle and steal your property.” If you have any information about vehicle crime – or want to know more about the new signs – contact your local police station on 0845 045 4545.
