Youngsters leading the way
PUPILS at Petersfield Infant School are looking to cut back on the waste they make during lunch break in a bid to help the local environment.
Children from a Year 2 class joined up with staff from Drum Housing last Thursday to measure how many crisp packets, plastic bottles, apple cores and the like were left over after their midday meal had finished.
They are now going to persuade parents to give them recyclable bottles among other things to reduce the amount of waste they make.
The children will then measure the rubbish levels again in a month’s time to see if they managed to reduce their waste levels.
Year 2 leader Alyson Crew said her pupils had an interesting day learning about recycling with the Drum Housing team and about noise and anti-social behaviour.
She said Petersfield Infant School aims to become a sustainable school in the future and wanted to win an eco-award in the next three years.
