A3 reopened after closure between Petersfield and Clanfield

The A3 and A3(M) had to be closed again in East Hampshire during the early hours of Thursday morning.

An incident on the road saw it closed in both directions between junction two on the A3(M) at Clanfield and the A3's junction with the A272 at Petersfield South (next to the services area at McDonalds and Premier Travel Inn).

There were reports that power lines had come down between Clanfield and Chalton.

The Highways Agency reported that the road reopened by around 2.30am.

There were also reports overnight of poor driving conditions on the northbound carriageway of the A3 from Horndean to Guildford.

Snow and ice combined to create hazardous conditions but most motorists had listened to police warnings not to head out in their vehicles.

After the chaos of Tuesday night when up to 1,000 vehicles were left stranded on the A3, roads across East Hampshire had very little traffic on them overnight.
