AN ENVIRONMENTALIST who represented Whitehill & Bordon for nearly two decades has raised concerns about an emerging blueprint and what it could mean for his patch.
Former district councillor, Adam Carew, has plenty of good things to say about the Draft East Hampshire Local Plan, but the lack of feedback from locals concerns him, while he’s labelled the prospect of additional housing around Mill Chase Road and Hollywater “appalling”.
In a 2,800-word assessment, Mr Carew welcomed news that plans for housing off Gibbs Lane are off the table, and called efforts to protect areas opposite the Bordon Inclosure ‘a good thing’.
He also believes increased density in the new town centre could work, as it will make the core more viable and shift development away from green edges.
But, he’s not convinced W&B needs the additional 661 houses, while the prospect of 120 new homes for Standford Grange Farm has rung alarm bells, being rich in wildlife, history and ecology and down a semi-rural lane.
The prospect of a possible 240 cars pouring onto Hollywater Road, often used as a rat run, and the loss of prime farming land, has also angered Mr Carew.
Mr Carew’s letter also vents concerns about the loss of woodland close to Louisburg Avenue, Lion Court and around the BOSC site, as they’ve all be suggested as locations for future housing.
He also called for more investment, and not housing, around the Forest Centre, believing the site has been neglected.
