Big field follows bloodhounds on the scent of men
The latest meet of the South Downs Bloodhounds took place in glorious sunshine at Froxfield this Sunday.
Senior Master Jeremy Whaley and hounds led 39 riders across farmland and forest following the scent of men on foot, with a 20-minute headstart. Others walked the route.
Though the pre-arranged route is completed before the hunt begins, secretary Fran Baker suggested that when the dogs eventually find their quarry, they have only one thing in mind.
"They might lick you to death," she said. "Our bloodhounds are such affectionate animals that going on a Bloodhound hunt is a fun event for any age or ability."
The South Downs Bloodhounds have been hunting since 2005 and meet every Sunday at Froxfield at noon.
With dogs on Sunday called Chatterbox and Dollop, it suggests that although through the week they are kept as pack animals, these dogs clearly don't go short for affection.
