Campsite could stop future housing says scheme applicant
Plans for a new campsite at London Road, Sheet
THE Sheet resident hoping to open a campsite alongside London Road says if it is given the go ahead developing it will be a slow process.
Lucy Spooner aims to provide 37 pitches for tents and camper vans, but not caravans, on the 1.4 hectare field next to the A272.
Mrs Spooner, of London Road, said: “If the national park authority grants planning permission, hopefully by Spring 2014 the landscaping, toilet block and access tracks will be done and we can open.
“Then the meeting room will be built, which won’t have a bar, but will be more of an information point.”
The toilet block will be plumbed into the main drains, and a survey has said that although the nearby Riiver Rother could overflow, flooding shouldn’t affect the site.
A bank will seperate the site from the road, so reducing noise and stopping campers trying to cross it to get to pubs in Sheet, rather than using the entrance between Village Street and the bridge over the river.
Mrs Spooner said: “There is a need for camp sites in the area. and it will reduce any pressure to use the field for housing.”
