Couple bid to renew plans to demolish Privett country house
A LONDON couple want to renew plans to flatten a secluded country house in woods near Privett and replace it with a bigger house, clock house and garage, and swimming pool.
In early 2010 Mr and Mrs Watkins of Whitelands House, Cheltenham Terrace, London, gained permission to demolish Coles House in Basing Lane, west of Froxfield, and rebuild it to their proposed plans.
Giving permission, East Hampshire District Council planners described the scale of the demolition and rebuild project, that would see the floor area of the new house almost double from the 433.8 square metres of the existing one, as “significant”.
Conditions for the permission insisted the pool was only used by the homeowners, and not sold at a later date separately to the new house, and that the garages couldn’t be converted into living accomodation in the future.
However, one condition of the permission was that work on the new brick and flint house was started within three years, which hasn’t happened, and in January 2013 the permission expires.
On behalf of the London couple, Andy Partridge of Southern Planning Practice has applied to South Downs National Park to extend the permission for another three years. Planners are still considering the application. To view it, visit the SDNPA planning website, reference SDNP/12/01402/FUL
