HEADTEACHER of Mill Chase Community Technology College Jackie Adams has unexpectedly resigned as staff and pupils returned for the spring term, saying she had made the decision “for personal reasons after much deliberation”.

A statement issued by the Bordon school’s chair of governors Christine Thompson on Monday said that Mrs Adams had provided effective leadership to the college and she would be sadly missed.

It added that when the school was monitored in October 2012, the report was full of praise for the way Mrs Adams was improving the school.

The governors wished Mrs Adams every success in the future.

Mrs Adams took over as head at Mill Chase in September 2008, having been deputy head at Horndean Technology College, where she had worked since 1997.

In 2004 while she spent two days a week working for Hampshire Inspection and Advisory Service, which developed the curriculum for 14- to 19-year olds, she made regular visits to Mill Chase.

Until a new permanent head is appointed at Mill Chase, it will be led by Geoff Walls, who is moving from the position of vice-principal at Havant Academy.

He was an assistant head at Bay House School, Gosport, and has been involved with a planned free school at Whiteley.

He said he is excited by the opportunity of working with students, staff, parents, governors and members of the wider community and he will build on the improvements made over recent years.

He believes strongly that Mill Chase Community Technology College has the potential to be an outstanding centre of learning at the heart of the community.
