Running group looks to grow in new year

A LADIES only running group in Horndean is looking to recruit more members for 2013.

Based at Merchistoun Hall it aims to help women lose weight and get fitter by taking part in friendly, non-competitive runs.

A range of 10-week courses are being offered at different times, and the popular programme is now in its fourth year and supported by East Hampshire District Council.

A council spokesman said: “It shows many women would like to go running, but don’t have the confidence on their own.”

The jogs for those of all ages looks to ease women into running, allowing them to continue after the sessions have finished into the ongoing improver’s running group for ladies who can comfortably run three or more miles.

Running coach Helen Murphy said: “We are a social running group who supports the women who join us. No special kit is needed and we start with walking and running drills which we then slowly build up.”
