Knitted cuties to give joy to home
Dilys Lownsborough from Petersfield, with her knitted creatures raising money for Bulmer House care home
A PETERSFIELD woman isn’t in the slightest bit woolly-headed when it comes to charity fundraising schemes.
Dilys Lownborough, best known for Dilys Designs bridal wear, has been busy knitting more than 130 Easter creatures to raise money for Petersfield care home for the elderly, Bulmer House.
It all started when Dilys, whose mother-in-law is at Bulmer House, discovered that the care home’s events fund had been cut.
“It’s pretty grim for them,” she said. “No one’s fault; but I thought we have to get them some money somehow.
“It’s so much harder to raise money for the elderly.”
The knitted animals with the “cuteability factor” can be collected for a minimum donation of £4.50 each or £8 for two. They are available from a number of shops in Petersfield or directly from Dilys on 01730 266779.
This isn’t Dilys’ first knitting fundraiser idea. Her sponsored knitted squares blankets scheme raised £1,500 last year, which has since paid for a trip on a canal boat in May. Most of the 27 residents of Bulmer House will be going on the trip, but those that are too unwell will receive a gift too. “We are hoping to arrange some sort of entertainment as well,” said Dilys.
“So it’ll be a special day for everyone.”
