Lambs are highlight of farm's open day

Mill Cottage Farm Experience had an "absolutely fabulous" open day on Monday.

The charity fundraising event, held at Holybourne Theatre was a chance for people to get close to farm animals and meet Tom and Sarah Main, who run the mobile farm.

Sarah said they couldn't have asked for a better day: "It went really well, and the weather certainly helped! Nothing escaped and none of the animals ate any of the others – so all in all, pretty good!

"It was absolutely fabulous. We had various stalls, guess the weight of the piglets (the four piglets weighed 66.6kg), bees, a hawk and ferrets, and our goat kids which are only a week old and really gorgeous. The four bottle-fed lambs were probably the highlight.

"It was a much bigger event than last year's and turned out to be just brilliant. It was one of those days where I could just sit back and relax and enjoy it."

Seven hundred people turned up to enjoy the charity event, and MCFE will be able to hand over a cheque for 400 to Breakthrough Breast Cancer later this month.

Sarah added: "We had two ladies from Hampshire Spinners and Weavers who ran a woolcraft and spinning stall and they handed over every penny of the day's proceeds to charity. That's what it's all about."
