Laundry year old and going strong
THE committee of volunteers which now runs Liphook Community Support Laundry is celebrating the first anniversary of taking over the facility.
They say more people than ever are using it – but are still looking for new customers.
Meanwhile, work has almost been completed on installing new gas pipes and a meter.
Committee member Katy Bath said: “The new committee has raised over £6,000 since December 2011, when we took over the running of the laundry from Age Concern.
“The money has paid for the first year’s lease of the building, a new washing machine, dryer, iron and stand and the premises have been given a much needed facelift.”
She added: “As well as the expected expenses, we were faced with an extra burden when it was discovered that a new gas meter and pipework had to be installed as the old ones were deemed to be dangerous.
“Over £3,000 was raised in a couple of months. Thanks go to Age Concern (Liphook) who donated £1,500, Bordon Care who donated £500, Radio Solent Community Chest, which contributed £340, and the lovely friends of Liphook’s ‘Love To Sing’ choir who held a Christmas concert which raised over £700.
“We are pleased to say that the work for the new gas pipe and meter has now almost been completed and we are looking forward to another successful 12 months of helping the local community.
“As the laundry continues to go from stregth to strength we are still looking to take on new clients, and we will accept laundry from any elderly, disabled or short-term incapacitated people from Liphook and the surrounding villages.”
The laundry charges £6 for each bag of washing to be washed, dried and ironed.
