Marking 20 years in rugby clubhouse

Petersfield Rugby Club celebrated the 20th anniversary of the opening of their clubhouse at Penns Place on Saturday.

Many of the organising committee from 1989 were gathered together at the lunch held before the club's league match against Aldershot & Fleet.

Paul Martin, Petersfield RFC's president, paid tribute to the team who had undertaken this mammoth project.

"We're very pleased to mark the 20th anniversary of the completion of our current clubhouse. The team of 10 club members voluntarily running the building project held 80 meetings over the 20-month duration of the project, showing real tenacity and incredible commitment.

"In particular, the clubhouse has proved to be the perfect facility to accommodate the enormous growth of our youth section over the last two decades."

Andy Millar added: "Not all could be there, sadly. Les Cannon and Aubrey Sayer are in the great clubhouse in the sky, Mike Hackman is just back from holiday and Mike Lindsay is in North York-shire. John Ray is playing for the Threes."
