Monthly market for Grayshott Square agreed
GRAYSHOTT Parish Council has given the go-ahead to a proposal for a monthly market in the Square at the centre of the village.
The idea for having a Grayshott market is one of the latest activities planned by the Square Events Group, which has already organised several popular Square lunches, Bastille day and St George’s day activities and now the well-established Christmas market.
Grayshott Parish Council chairman Clive Slaughter said: “We are delighted to approve this proposal.
“Grayshott is an active and thriving village and having a monthly market is an excellent way of using our Square and bringing the community together.
“It will be yet another regular activity to add to the popularity and experience of coming to Grayshott.
“We expect it to bring many more visitors to the village.”
Grayshott Square Events Group chairman the Rev. Moray Thomas added: “We have proved that markets work with our now well established and successful Christmas market.”
The Grayshott Square Markets are set to start early next year.

The Grayshott Illuminations Group (GIG) have had a very successful start raising money for the new village lighting scheme.
Small and large donations have been received and there has been great support over joining the ‘Monkey Club’ (a monkey is an old slang word for £500) and all members have donated at least £500 to GIG.
Over £10,000 has now been raised in a matter of a few weeks.
There have been many different contributors to the ‘Monkey Club’ and they include: Hampshire County Council, Hidden Gardens, Party In Grayshott, Grayshott Golf Society, Chocolate Frog, Grayshott Pottery, Bay Leaf Restaurant, Grayshott.com, Party In Grayshott, Firkin Feast, East Hampshire District Council, and Phil and Shirley Bates.
Phil Bates said: “I am very pleased to be part of the GIG team working closely with Dick Smith our chairman who has been a shining light over getting this initiative up and running and has been very focused over raising the necessary funds, so many thanks go to Dick.
“It’s very pleasing to see this community support yet again in Grayshott, but more funding is still needed to make this a success story that will light up the village for many years to come.”
