Petersfield couple to raise £100,000 for injured soldiers

A PETERSFIELD couple have pledged to raise £100,000 in a year for an all weather sports pitch for injured soldiers.

Fundraising events being planned by Iain and Melanie Robinson of Love Lane include a concert at Churcher’s College by the Band of the Royal Marines.

They offered to help after Iain heard about the ambitous project planned for Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham from the Royal Marines Association, which is behind the idea.

Petersfield Scout leader and assistant district commissioner Melanie said: “It will be next to the hospital and Fisher House, where families can stay to help the soldiers recuperate, and will be somewhere they can enjoy wheelchair and ordinary sports, and also play with their children and renew relationships, which in the circumstances is very important.”

Other fundraisers include a three venue tennis tournament for all ages, at which it is hoped a big name in the sport will attend, smaller events such as sponsored walks, and it is hoped local businesses will contribute.

Melanie said: “Petersfield has many links with the marines and navy and this is a very worthwhile cause.”
