Secondhand designer clothes shop filling a gap in market

A NEW women’s fashion exchange has opened in Petersfield town centre.

Something Blue, in Chapel Street, has already been stocked with designer dresses and bags by the likes of Gucci, Dolce and Gabbana, Jaeger and Victoria Beckham.

The shop is situated inside the old Road Radio retail unit and opened its doors for the first time on February 23.

All the items on sale have hardly ever been worn and are priced accordingly.

Customers are encouraged to come into the store to exchange new or nearly new designer and high street clothes at a fraction of the price.

Owner Moyra White also accepts clothes which once sold, half of the proceeds are shared with the person who brought them in.

Moyra said opening Something Blue was a long-time ambition of hers. Before she started up the shop she worked as an accountant up the street at husband Steve’s shoe repair business The Petersfield Cobbler.

She said: “There used to be a really good shop in Lavant Street called Deja Vu which closed down so I thought there was a gap in the market.

“I just decided to take the plunge. I have talked about it for a long time and then it was all about finding a good site, which I now have.

“It has been really good so far and I am getting a lot of people coming through with clothing, what I need to do now is to for them to come in and start buying the stuff.”

Moyra was inspired by the fact that many of her friends and she herself often bought an expensive dress and wore it only once.

She believed a shop in Petersfield acting as a fashion exchange would be a great way for women to pick up high-quality items for less.

“I feel that a lot of women feel that when you are buying a dress for a wedding it they can only wear it once,” she said.

“Or there is a danger someone else will buy exactly the same one.

“I have ended up giving away thousands of pounds worth of clothes myself over the years.

“With this shop you can exchange the dress and get something else here cheaper.”

Moyra has given herself a year to make Something Blue a success.

“I absolutely love coming in here every morning,” she added.

“But I have got to make money out of it to be able to pay the rates.

“It is something I really want to enjoy doing.
