FIVE Petersfield town centre properties are about to go under the hammer in Hove. Auctioneers Austin Gray of Brighton says they are being sold on behalf of SP Gray and H McShane as Law of Property Act receivers and are expected to make around £900,000.

Since 2008, Soyful Haque, of Lavant Street, has been involved at one time or another with all the buildings, including submitting change of use planning applications to East Hampshire District Council.

The taxi firm director, who is 35, said: “Yes, I am selling one or two of my properties, but keeping the majority. I can only do so much and want to concentrate on the ones I am keeping.”

After discussions with Mr Haque, Holly McGhie opened the Old China Club in College Street in November – only to be given notice to leave 10 weeks later in early January. The shabby building with flat above was on the market for £350,000, but the auction target is £250,000.

In Lavant Street, the 20-year lease on the Domino Pizza takeaway, which opened in 2011 after Mr Haque successfully got its use changed from shop to take away, is to go under the hammer, with a top end guide price of £300,000.

Also in Lavant Street, a two-bedroom flat above, but separate to, Seafare fish and chip shop, is up for £90,000.

In the same street, the Chinese Herbal Centre and flat above which Mr Haque got permisssion to convert in April 2008 is on offer at £160,000. The lease with the tenants is due end this year.

Finally in April 2011 permission was gained by Mr Haque to convert an outbuilding in Drum Lane behind Lavant Street into a one-bedroom dwelling. The plot is to go to auction with a guide price of £60,000.

Another shop in Lavant Street, formerly Haques Fashions, is advertised for rent and a former Indian takeaway in the same street operated by Mr Haque and with timber decking outside is set to become a wine bar.

He said: “It’s being done up and I hope it will open in February, but I don’t want to say too much until then.”

For information about the sale in Hove Town Hall at 1pm on Thursday, February 7, and to arrange property viewings contact Austin Gray auctions of Vernon Terrace, Brighton, 01273 201980.
