Winchester bovine TB meeting for farmers
A MEETING near Winchester will outline how new bovine tuberculosis regulations will affect local farmers.
It will feature speakers from Animal Health and Veterinary Laboratories Agency, the National Farmers Union, Hampshire Trading Standards, local vets and livestock market representatives and will describe the tighter cattle movement controls being applied this year.
Defra says to help eradicate bovine TB there will be more surveillance by vets, and in some areas badgers will be culled.
NFU Hampshire adviser Sandra Nichols said: “Cattle must be tested annually for bovine TB and any being sold will have to have a pre movement test, with a few exemptions for those going to slaughter. Farmers will face a large cost as a result. “We hope to clear up confusion about this new regime, to help people minimise the impacts on their businesses and we’ll also highlight options that might help them.”
Those wishing to attend the meeting on January 14 should contact NFU South East on 01730 711950, citing NFU number or a farm name and postcode, for venue and start time details.
