Youth centre moves forward
PROPOSALS for a youth centre at Love Lane in Petersfield are moving ahead as architects are being considered to draw up designs for planning permission.
After considering other sites, the Festival for Young People charity will press ahead with plans for a youth centre beside Love Lane playing fields.
It would include a sports hall and changing rooms, craft rooms and workshops, a dedicated space for The Kings Arms youth group, a learning kitchen, chill-out area and cafe.
In a presentation to Petersfield Town Council, Councillor Bill Organ said: “The next step will require some financial outlay for an architect as a prelude to a planning application.”
In April it is hoped there will be a presentation to the town council at which a model of the building will be unveiled.
Then in May it is expected the model and initial plans will go on public display.
In the meantime it is hoped the proposal to move ahead with the plan will encourage public debate.
A business plan for running the centre is being prepared and it is likely the youth club will be run by trustees, and a committee separate to the Festival of Youth group.
