Conservatives strengthened their hold on East Hampshire District Council after Thursday's election.
As the ballot papers were counted during Friday at Petersfield's Festival Hall it became increasingly clear that the Tories had scored a resounding victory.
Their share of the seats rose from 25 to 30, snapping up three vacant positions and stealing
two previously Lib Dem wards.
Some contests were nerve-wrackingly tight and it took drawn lots, after a tied score, for the Tories to land the best victory of the day as former council leader Peter Rodgers was ousted from Clanfield and Finchdean.
Turnouts varied enormously with the lowest at 19 per cent in Whitehill Deadwater and the highest at 50 per cent in Downland.
The final totals were Conservatives 30, Lib Dems 14. Labour and the two Independent candidates failed to make a mark.
