Linkenholt v Old Alresford
Old Alresford scored an impressive away victory on Saturday. A depleted Linkenholt side had five of their regulars unavailable.

Old Alresford were put in to bat on a good pitch with a fast outfield. They got off to an excellent start with an openi
ng stand of 126 between John Waters (40) and Alex Bell (73), the first century opening partnership since 2005.

Number 3 Steve Purnell hit a typically pugnacious 71 and Gary Ingram a forceful 59.

A quick 24* by Tony Temple late on enabled the visitors to reach 300-6 in their 42 overs. Adrian Holdway and John Trewby each took two wickets.

When Linkenholt batted, six of the first eight overs bowled by Steve Purnell and Nick Connell were maidens, two of Connell's, wicket maidens. The score stood at 6-2 and the home team never recovered from this position. Tony Robb (45) was the only batsman to exceed 20 and after a third-wicket stand of 47, wickets fell regularly.

Skipper Dave Stanbrook gave eight bowlers a turn with the ball, and John Waters (3-21 from six overs) and Gary Ingram (3-22 from eight) were the most successful.

Good catches were held as Linkenholt limped to 127-9, to give Old Alresford victory by 173 runs. They remain fourth in the table and entertain leaders Oakley on Saturday.
