THE Three Counties League brought mixed fortunes for Petersfield in the latest series of matches.
The A team lost away to Liphook B but secured a point, with D Oliver, P Foulkes and A Sanders winning 17-10.
However, it was the B team who improved on their fine performance of the previous week by taking maximum points in their home match agains
t Frensham.
S Paton, J Salmon and M Paton led throughout their game for a 24-16 win and P Burrage, K Burrage amd T Jenkins powered away in the second half for an impressive 24-9 score.
As in the first triple, R Purchase, M Hutchinson and B Peake led after the second end to run out a 25-11 scoreline, and give an overall result of 73-36 to the home side.
The game of the week though was the second round tie of the Midhurst Cup between Petersfield and old rivals Headley.
The format is that two triples play home and away simultaneously, with no contact until both matches are completed.
At Headley the triples from Petersfield came up against strong opposition, with Headley winning both games 26-7 and 21-13 – a margin of 27 shots.
Petersfield’s players were feeling rather despondent until they heard the result from the other match.
Both Petersfield triples had secured fine wins, 32-7 and 32-13, giving 44 shots to the home side and an overall score of 84-67, putting Petersfield through to the semi finals by 17 shots.
Captain Richard Purchase was delighted with “an impressive team performance” and how it illustrated the old addage that it is never over until it is over.
Petersfield Ladies had a first round win against Gosport in the Thornbury Trophy.
