HEADLEY'S poor run of results continued on Saturday with defeat in the Hampshire Intermediate Cup, on a dull day at Mill Lane with the game matching the weather.

Both sides started very uncommitted with few chances. The first oppor
tunity fell to Romsey with an angled drive tipped past the post by young Headley keeper Moody, making his debut appearance.

The only goal of the game came when a harsh free-kick was awarded against Headley midfielder Keddle and Romsey's dead ball expert curled the ball just inside the post on 23 minutes.

Just before half-time Headley had the ball in the Romsey goal only to be disallowed.

The second half saw Headley introduce substitutes Fanelli and Burt soon after the restart along with a formation change. This allowed Burt more space to centre in some excellent crosses, but Headley failed to connect.

Romsey seemed to settle for the slender advantage and went more defensive, only having the occasional break. Headley pilled on the pressure but were unable to equalise and force extra-time.

Headley: Moody, Jones, White, Roberts, Downes, Barnes, Keddle, Lee, Fyfield, Ellis, Murphy; subs: Fanelli, Burt.

Headley are at home on Saturday to Stoneham (3pm).
