BLACKNEST professional Jon Le Roux finished joint runner-up behind Dummer's Scott Watson, who shot a three-under-par 66 to win the recent Alresford Pro-Am.
Victory was worth a cool £1,000 to Watson. The highlight of his round was a two at the eighth where he holed a 60-yard pitch for an eagle.
Watson also became the first professional to win the Pope Trophy, presented by Chris Pope and his family.
The tournament was sponsored by HA Fox Jaguar and organised by Malcolm Scott, the club professional at Alresford. Fifty teams took part, making the tournament the largest pro-am in the Hampshire PGA's Order of Merit.
Le Roux and Jon Barnes (Sherfield Oaks) shout rounds of 68.
Liphook's Ian Mowbray and his team of John Jackson, Richard Sharvin and Mark Tapply won the pro-am with an 11-under-par score of 127. They pushed Watson's team of Charlie Swann, Sam Elkins and Ian Swann into second place after a countback.
Hole in One prizes at the sixth and 10th holes were not claimed so John Thornton, the Alresford captain, presented consolation bottles of champagne to Scott Watson, Gary Stubbington, Chris Hudson, Sam Holloway and Guy Shoesmith. All five professionals recorded twos during their round.
l BLACKMOOR assistant Steve Mitchell shared fourth place behind Tim Cornick (Portsmouth) who successfully defended his Strada Contractors Trainees title at Waterlooville on Monday.
Cornick shot rounds of 76 and 70 for a two-over-par total of 146, three shots ahead of Sam Holloway (Chilworth) and David Aitchison (Hayling).
James Fairlie (Dunwood Manor) and Mitchell shared fourth place with 151.
