Headley bowlers Don Stephens and Peter Osland have been honoured by the Hampshire County Bowls Association.
They were both awarded their county badges following their final qualifying match for Hampshire against Great Britain Civil Service.

They received their awards from Hampshire’s immediate past president Ken Graham.

Headley Bowling Club contested three cup competitions this week, winning two and losing one.

Headley played Alresford in the Petersfield Cup and playing a four, a triple and a pair, the Headley team overcame strong opposition to achieve a comfortable 69-45 victory.

Result (Headley first): P Clifford, D Moss, D Davey, S Burrows 23, B Maskell, J Halliday, J le Marchand, J Langrish 17; J Bettger, D Weston, D Stephens 24, D Hebberd, G Stevens, J Kitchen 12; B Stephens, R Bousher 22, M Nugent, J Cattle 16.

The Ladies played in the Thornberry Cup against Moneyfields and the result was in doubt until the very last bowl.

With one of the two rinks completed Moneyfields gained a three shot advantage.

Headley’s second rink entered the final end holding a three shot advantage and the match was all square.

They held a shot lie as the Moneyfields skip attempted a last wood effort to save the game.

To the delight of the Headley Ladies the bowl narrowly slid by and the game was theirs.

Result: V Robinault, P Clifford, J Weston and S Burrows lost 19-22; B Stephens, C Lapworth, J Bettger and D Davey won 23-18.

Headley played in the Midhurst Cup against Petersfield, with two triples at home and two away.

The home triples played some excellent bowls to amass a 27 point advantage. However, the away triples crashed to a resounding defeat and the match was lost by 18 shots overall.

Both Rogate league teams beat their respective division leaders.

Rogate A beat Headley G 65-54, winning on one rink and gaining three points.
