AS A new season looms ever closer, Clanfield manager Rob Coldrick is optimistic that his side can put in another good show and predicts they will again be a force to be reckoned with.
Coldrick, who has completed 15 years as manager with the same club – surely a record locally – said: "In the close season we lost the services of our prolific scorer Roger Moore."

The 38-year-old Moore has decided to hang up his boots and concentr
ate on watching his young son, who has just started on his football career.

"Roger will be greatly missed by us," said Coldrick, "as he has been our top goal scorer for the last 10 years."

So it is now over to the younger players to take the lead and fill Moore's place.

"We are very lucky to have some great prospects on that front," Coldrick added. "It was great news to hear that Harry Potter has decided to stay with us after a number of other clubs had tried to tempt him away.

"Also on the playing side, I am pleased to say that we have kept all the players from last season bar Tom Wray, who is stepping up a league and has joined Petersfield Town. We wish him well."

He revealed: "In the next week we will be making a few new signings ourselves, which I believe will strengthen the squad even more. We will be unveiling them in our pre-season friendlies at the start of August."

On the management side Clanfield are unchanged with Coldrick, Tony Adams, Stuart Wallis and Shaun Day.

Coldrick said: "It was important that we kept this team together and build on the achievements of last season. We all have a very good rapport and work well together, which bodes well for the future of the senior sides."

The pitch at Peel Park is to be moved to a new position. "This will enable us to plan for the future and work towards laying a spectator walkway down one side of the pitch, which will include pitch perimeter fencing," Coldrick said.

Clanfield's Hampshire Premier season kicks off on August 16 when they travel to Team Solent in Southampton.

The Reserves season starts on September 6.
