Steep v Lodsworth: STEEP put in an excellent team performance in this first leg of the second round of the Milland Charity Cup, with an exemplary fielding display, steady bowling and superb batting.
Lodsworth batted first and struggled to break through the cordon of fielders. Wickets fell regularly, all the bowlers claiming victims and Lauren Preston taking three catches.
Mandy Hill made 16 and Yvonne Woodward 15, but it was Nikkie Enticknap
who topped scored with 31. Lodsworth totalled 104 off their 14 overs.
The Steep reply started steadily with Deirdre Lindsey making a tentative beginning to an innings that became more assured as it progressed.
Joy Barnes helped the process with a positive innings of 19 before being caught and Cathy Knight continued in the same vein with a very supportive 33.
By the ninth over with the score on 92, Deirdre Lindsey started opening out with some imperious shots and finished on 104*, a really magnificent innings, which included ten boundaries, the last over yielding 25 runs.
This brought the Steep total to 173 which gives them a lead of 69 when they go to Lodsworth for the second leg on July 6.
Steep v Stedham
Steep warmed to the midsummer weather and again put in a great team effort to win the Milland Tournament.
They defeated Liphook, Lodsworth, Milland and Ebernoe on their way to meeting Stedham in the final.
Batting first they made 61 off the four overs and Stedham could only muster 39 in reply. Hannah Lindsey and Lauren Preston batted and ran with alacrity throughout the day,
Deirdre Lindsey and Cathy Knight held the bowling on a tight rein and the rest of the team of Ruth Dring, Aimee Holloway, Charlotte Lindsey and Belinda Harding all supported in a scintillating display.
