PETERSFIELD were still reeling yesterday after their shock bank holiday defeat at Whitchurch on the back of a 7-1 win.
The club management were not available for comment, but a Town representative said: “It was a terrible performance. In all hones
ty it was one of the worst games I’ve seen for many years.”
Without naming individuals, he said the Town players just turned up and went through the motions.
Whitchurch, who can boast some Southern League players in their ranks, coasted to a 3-0 half-time lead, pouncing on defensive errors and revelling in the time and space they were allowed on the ball.
The second half told a similar story, Whitchurch again making the most of a couple of defensive slips.
The representative added: “Whitchurch were a workmaline side on the night but we gave them the chances they needed. All the goals were the result of errors on our part.”
He added: “I can assure you a more palatable performance will be given by Town next time out.”
Petersfield 7 Downton 1
TOM WRAY and Robbie Warwick were the hat-trick heroes for Petersfield last Tuesday night.
Both players weighed in with trebles when their side beat Downton in Wessex Division 1 at Love Lane.
Scott Hounslow completed the scoring for the home side.
Warwick, who was fresh from his appearance in the Petersfield v Portsmouth glamour game, scored one of his goals from the spot.
Pick of the goals were the two driven home by Wray from the edge of the area.
Town dominated from start to finish and were 3-0 in front by half-time.
