Blacknest Juniors Section were very pleased to support The Golf Foundation as their charity during 2023.
A cheque for £1,739.92 was presented to Mike Hollis from The Golf Foundation at their AGM on February 20.
This was the final AGM for the juniors section, as it will be dissolved at the end of this month, along with the men’s, ladies and seniors sections, because 360 Beech, the new owners of Blacknest Golf Club, have decided to close the course for redesign.
The juniors have grown in numbers and ability over the last few years, enabling them to enter the Juniors North Hampshire/Berkshire League for the first time in 2023. This provided a new challenge for the ten players who represented the club at one or more of the six fixtures over the season.
They showed great commitment, camaraderie and character to represent all that Blacknest Juniors has stood for, and took the league by storm. They led the league for the entire season, winning the overall team trophy, with Alfie Sherrell winning trophies for the individual best score at three events, plus best overall score for boys with a handicap above 28.
The AGM included the annual report of individual progress and other achievements throughout the year, before agreeing on how best to dispose of the section assets remaining at the end of March.
The success of the section since 2018 has been due to the organisation, commitment and support shown by the volunteers who have led it. Monthly group coaching sessions from the resident pro Paul Creamer, guidance on rules and etiquette, along with fun and competitive golf events, have enabled the juniors to develop their skills, achieve and reduce their handicaps, and compete at local, county and national level.
Organiser Brenda Mayle thanked those who backed the juniors and wished them many happy rounds in the future.
