SHOPMOBILITY Petersfield is celebrating 20 years of helping keep people mobile – and appealing for volunteers to help out at their premises in the Central car park.

The charity has been hiring out electric mobility scooters and wheelchairs at very affordable rates since 2002.

Spokesman Colin Eveleigh said: “It’s run by helpful, friendly volunteers who can help you, or someone you know, find the right means of getting about.

“What if, for whatever reason, you couldn’t do the shopping, go for walks or even take breaks on holiday?

“There is a limit to what can be achieved remotely online and in any case getting out and about gives us freedom, and helps us keep in touch with others.

“It’s vital for health and wellbeing, but to keep going, as well as financial support, we need hands-on support.

“We work three-hour shifts and usually just once a week, morning or afternoon.

“But some of us are stepping in to do more shifts just now because we don’t really have enough volunteers. We could definitely do with a few more.”
